Quick Installation Guide – MAWi Standalone

MAWi platform consists of a single ‘MAWi Server’ installation, that can control multiple ‘MAWi Client’ instances. 

Each MAWi Client can be installed on a different network or site and connected to the MAWi Server, allowing you to centrally manage and control all screens from a single web-based dashboard.

Please note

MAWi Server and MAWi Client can be installed on the same PC in case you have just one site.

In this guide, we will walk you through the installation process of MAWi platform.

 

The process consists of 3 steps:

 

1. Installing MAWi Server

2. Installing MAWi Client

3. Installing one of the connectivity variations:

MAWi ZEROMAWi SpacewallMAWi TCMAWi Standalone or MAWi USB, according to the connectivity scenario you are about to implement in your set up.

In this guide, we will walk you through the installation process of MAWi Standalone variant.

MAWi Server – Installation Guide

MAWi Server runs an IIS Web app and a database that is running over MS SQL Server.

Please note:

In case you have just a single site you can choose to install both, MAWi Server and MAWi Client, on the same PC or virtual machine.

System Requirements

Windows® 10 64bit PRO or Enterprise, Server 2012 R2, Server 2016, Server 2019

The MAWi Server can be installed on a PC or a VM and can also reside on the same machine with MAWi Client.

Intel Dual Core or AMD with similar capabilities. Core i5 of the latest generation is recommended.

If used on a virtual machine, assign at least 2 vCores.

At least 4GB.

Gigabit Ethernet network is recommended.

 

Communication with the server-side is done over port 60668

Communication with the client-side is done over port 60669

Those ports can be changed.

 

Static IP is recommended.

1. During the installation process, the installer will download the following components from the Internet:

 

– .NET Framework 3.5

– SQL Server 2014 Express

– Node JS v12

– Web Platform plugin

– Rewrite URL for IIS

In case you wish to install the above components manually please read this guide.

 2. In case you’ve installed MAWi Server on Windows10 OS, IIS Express is also installed and its console must run in the background at all times. Do not close this window

MAWi Client – Installation Guide

MAWi Client can be either installed on a PC or a virtual machine, connected to a single display or multiple displays.

Please note:

In case you have just a single site you can choose to install both, MAWi Server and MAWi Client, on the same PC or virtual machine.

System Requirements

Windows® 7 32/64bit, Windows® 10 32/64bit, Server 2012/16/19

MAWi Client can run on a PC or a virtual machine (VM) that is connected to one or more monitors

 

The monitors can be connected directly or via a multi-display video card, LAN-based zero clients, Android-based devices or USB to HDMI adapters.

Intel Dual Core or AMD with similar capabilities. Core i5 or Core i7, the latest generation is usually recommended.

For Video Walls we would recommend using a standard Core i7, latest generation.

In addition, for better performance, we would recommend adding a single graphic display adaptor from NVIDIA or AMD,

which will off-load the CPU’s graphic processor. Read more here

Gigabit Ethernet network is recommended for the connection between the zero clients and host PC. The host PC can connect to the server via wifi.

 

MAWi Client Connects over the default port no. 60668 to MAWi Server. This port number can be changed.

During the installation process, the installer will download the following components from the Internet:

 

– VLC Media Playe v3

– PowerPoint Viewer

MAWi Standalone – Installation Guide

MAWi Standalone uses standard Windows-based PCs as the endpoints that connect to the screens.

 

In this guide, we will walk you through the process of setting up and configuring your PC to with MAWi platform.

Please follow the three steps below:

Step 1: System Requirements

1. Go through our System Specification page and make sure your PC is qualified for your needs.

2. Make sure your PC is updated with all the recent drivers and security updates. Especially with the most up to date drivers for the display adaptor installed on your machine.

 

 

If you are using Intel HD graphics go to Intel Download Center.

 

If you are using NVIDIA video adaptor go to Nvidia Download section.

 

If you are using AMD video adaptor go to AMD Download section.

3. Make sure the Power Policy settings in your Operating System are disabled so your screens won’t go into blank. In the Control Panel go to – Power Options:

 

Choose when to turn off the display > Set it to Never

Change when the computer sleeps > Set it to Never

 

Also, please disable the screen saver if enabled:

 

Control Panel > Personalized > Click on the Screen Saver icon on the bottom right corner > set it to None

4. In order for MAWi to operate properly, the user must be logged in all the time otherwise the Extended Desktop Mode is not operational. You must disable all security options that cause the PC to lock automatically as well.

 

For security measures, you can lock your PC by running an application that will lock the PC, keeping the multi-monitor setup running:

  1. TSL-PRO – Transparent Screen Lock – Professional-grade application from e-motionalOffered for 7 days evaluation.
  2. VBLOCK – Simple tool to lock your screen from VBTools –  Freeware.

For the same reason, you can’t use any remote control apps that control the Remote Session, such as Remote Desktop (RDP).

Only remote control apps that control the Console session can be used, such as:

VNC, Radmin, Dameware, Netsupport manager, TeamViewer, etc…

5. Make sure the Taskbar is not showing on the primary screen:

 

  • Right-click on the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
  • Set to On –  “Automatically hide the taskbar…”

Step 2: Setup your system

Identify and Rename the screens

First, click on the Identify screens button.

To rename the screen according to its current location or usage,

right-click on its thumbnail.

Please note

IDs will not appear on the primary screen of your PC, but only on the extended desktops.

Play a PowerPoint presentation on multiple screens

1. Create a new playlist and give it a name

2. Add a new item to the playlist

3. Browse your computer for the PPT file

4. Press on the Finish button

5. Select the screens, drag and drop the playlist on their thumbnails

6. Press Play

Please note that MAWi Client installs the PowerPoint Viewer by default.

Play Google Slides presentations on multiple screens

1. Create a Google Slide presentation

2. Publish it (File > Publish to the web)

– select the time between slides.

– Tick the ‘Start slideshow as soon as the player loads’ option.

– Tick the ‘Restart the slideshow after the last slide’ option.

3. Copy the published presentation’s link.

4. Create a new playlist and give it a name

5. Add a new item to the playlist

6. Select the URL tab > Paste the link > Set to open in full screen and Save.

7. Press on the Finish button

8. Select the screens, drag and drop the playlist on their thumbnails

9. Press Play

Open websites on multiple screens

1. Create a new playlist and give it a name

2. Add a new item to the playlist and select the URL tab

3. Type your URL, tick the “Open in full screen” box and Save

4. Press on the Finish button

5. Select the screens, drag and drop the playlist on their thumbnails

6. Press Play

* In the same way, you can have each screen showing a different URL.

Play videos on multiple screens

1. Create a new playlist and give it a name

2. Browse your computer for the video file

3. Select VLC Media Player to play the video

4. Press on the Finish button

5. Select the screens, drag and drop the playlist on their thumbnails

6. Press Play

Please note that MAWi Client installs the VLC Media Player by default.

* In the same way, you can have each screen playing a different video.
